We’ve made it possible for you to add customized input fields at checkout, so you or your client can easily collect the info you need from customers in your store’s checkout, whether it’s gift messages, consent checkboxes, multiple choice selections and more.

Why custom fields at checkout?

Adding custom input fields customers fill out or interact with offers several advantages to your store and client, with the main ones being:

  • Stronger communication - by collecting additional phone numbers, comments or preferred contact methods
  • A boost of operational efficiency - by getting specific info upfront instead of manually following up with customers post-purchase
  • More customization power - by allowing you to tailor the checkout experience to your client’s business
  • Helps with compliance - by making it possible to place disclaimers or opt-in checkboxes

Easily decide what to collect and where to place it at checkout

The new custom checkout fields feature is available in your store operations dashboard, under Business Settings > Checkout > Custom fields. There, you’ll be able to add a new custom field, choose its format, and decide at which checkout step this will appear.

We’ll even show you a preview as you set it up, so you can easily visualize it and get an idea of how this will look for the customer completing the purchase.

Here's an example of what the customer will see at checkout:

Different input formats to choose from

This variety of input formats will help you collect almost any kind of customer input:

  • Short text
  • Long text (paragraph)
  • Radio buttons
  • Checkbox
  • Dropdown menu with multiple options

In addition, you get to choose if this should be a required action at checkout or optional.

Examples of the kind of input you can collect with these custom fields

The possibilities are almost endless, but some of the main use cases may include:

  • Special instructions
  • Greeting or gift messages
  • Consent and other disclaimers the customer may need to acknowledge

Easily keep track of what customers provide

We’ll make sure to display any custom field the customer has filled out in their order details screen, customer emails, and also in your orders export file, when you create one.
